Youngsters from an Ammanford primary school have helped make a massive donation to help others struggling in the run up to Christmas as part of their harvest festival.

Pupils, parents and staff from Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman collected over 130kg of food as well as donating £500 to the Ammanford Foodbank.

The foodbank acts as a lifeline to many families facing a crisis in the area, particularly with Christmas approaching.

Assistant manager Mydrim Davies said, “The Foodbank continues to serve people in crisis in the Amman Valley area.

“Without the generosity and community spirit of those who donate there would be many people, including children, going days without a meal.”

In its first 18 months of operation the foodbank has fed more than 1,300 people – including over 500 children – with over 10 tonnes of food.

Jonathan Thomas, Pastor of Ammanford Evangelical Church which houses the Foodbank, said: “We are so grateful to all those who give food, finances and time to make sure that the people of Ammanford and the area continue to be cared for.

“We would like to thank all who continue to make it possible.”
