People with dementia and their carers in Ammanford will have the opportunity to try their hand at indoor bowls next month as part of an innovative Alzheimer’s Society service encouraging people with dementia and their carers to try something new.
The Indoor Bowls taster session will take place at 10.30am on Friday, December 5 at Dinefwr Indoor Bowls Club, Manor Road, Ammanford.
The course is open to people with dementia and their carers and will be a taster session for a group starting in January 2015.
The course, the first of its kind, is part of the ‘Try Something New’ project being delivered across Carmarthenshire, after Alzheimer’s Society were awarded over £720,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Cheryl Davies, Group Coordinator for Alzheimer’s Society said, "Just because someone has received a diagnosis of dementia it shouldn’t mean that they no longer have the opportunity to acquire new skills and share in new experiences.
"We want to support people with dementia to get involved with different activities in their local communities. Our aim is to reach out to those who may not have otherwise accessed our support services, and give them the chance to try something new.’
