BIG-hearted Guardian readers are being asked to help make Christmas better for those less fortunate than themselves.

Carmarthenshire county council has once again launched its annual Christmas Toybox and Youth Service Hamper appeals.

The initiatives provide gifts and food for hundreds of disadvantaged children and teenagers.

Deputy Leader Cllr Pam Palmer, who launched the Toybox appeal four years ago, said, “The Christmas Toy Box Appeal is a way of ensuring that the belief in Father Christmas and the magic of Christmas morning is experienced by children in Carmarthenshire, despite poverty and social disadvantage.

"Providing toys for parents and guardians to give to their children on Christmas morning provides significant help and support to families who are struggling to make ends meet."

The South Wales Guardian office, in Quay Street is among the collection points, a full list will be available at newsroom.carmarthenshire.gov.uk.

The Youth Service Christmas Hamper Appeal provides disadvantaged young people with a food hamper. Last Christmas, the Youth Service helped over 500 young people and their families, and this year the levels of need are expected to be higher. Food collection points will be established at Carmarthenshire County Council buildings.
