A GROUP of Built environment students at Coleg Sir Gâr’s, Ammanford campus, have won bronze in this year’s Chartered Institute of Building’s Welsh Student Challenge.

The event, held at Hensol Corporate Entertainment Centre awarded the team for taking part in tasks, such as, driving a Land Rover blindfolded on a rough terrain and constructing and operating a missile projector.

The regional heats are the first stepping stone to the National Student Challenge competition being held at their headquarters in Ascot.

This regional heat provides students with a unique chance to represent their college or university in a challenging way against other academic institutions.

It is also an opportunity for a team from a college or university to display their knowledge to potential employers, CIOB members and other dignitaries

Royston Davies, lecturer in built environment studies, said: “Tasks were aimed at testing students’ abilities to work and think outside the box and we were competing against other colleges so we were pleased to be named third in Wales.”
