AMMANFORD jobcentre recently held a very successful job fair with a visit from a Swansea City star.

The event, Be Your Own Boss, saw people from Ammanford and the surrounding area attend the information day, which featured a host of organisations giving advice to anyone who is thinking about moving into the world of self-employment.

Swansea City club ambassador Lee Trundle went along to meet locals and staff.

“Events like this are a great way to raise awareness and get people back into work,” said Lee.

“It was a privilege to be invited and meet the locals.”

Talented artist Cara Gibson was one of the role models invited to attend the event to advise those interested in stepping into self-employment.

“If it wasn’t for the help and advice I received from Ammanford Job Centre’s work coach Lawrence Molloy, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said Cara, from Ammanford.

The self-taught mother of four has seen her abstract artwork snapped up by Odhams Press and ATIK Gallery to sell Limited Edition Canvases both in the UK and America.

“I’m lucky to be able to work doing what I love – it’s all down to the help of the Jobcentre,” added Cara.

Ammanford work coach Lawrence Molloy said the event was a great success, which will now see other job centres in Wales follow suit, with their own Be Your Own Boss events.

“I am extremely happy with how the day went, we had a lot of people coming in and receiving a lot of useful information from a range of organisations,” said Lawrence.

Carmarthenshire county council leader Kevin Madge also attended the event, and praised the work of the manager and her staff.

“The Be Your Own Boss event is a great way for the people of Ammanford who are looking to set up their own businesses.

“I thank the jobcentre staff for all the hard work they do,” he said.

Carmarthenshire Entrepreneur Kevin Green also gave his backing to the event giving someone the opportunity to submit their business idea to him in order to win tickets to one of his training events.
