MAGISTRATES have jailed a Betws woman for ten weeks after she shoplifted while already serving a community order for assaulting a police officer.

Jailing her for ten weeks, Carmarthen Magistrates judged that Rachel Louise Hilton had ‘blatantly failed to comply with the community order’ and that as she had failed to take advantage of services provided by probation; ‘probation are unable to recommend any further community based sentence’.

Hilton, 39, of first floor flat, 21 Colonel Road, had been placed on the community order in December last year after she assaulted two people, including police officer Robert Clive Morgan.

She had also been charged with failing to surrender while on bail.

However, on July 22 this year, Hilton stole a cream blouse from Harmony Ltd, Ammanford, and also perfume, two bottles of ‘Sidekick’ and a jar of sweets from the town’s Home Bargains. She pleaded guilty to both charges and was jailed for two weeks.

She was also re-sentenced for the original offences of assaulting Officer Morgan at Llandybie in November, assaulting Simon Thomas by beating at Ammanford on December 12 and for failing to surrender to custody, receiving a further eight weeks imprisonment to run consecutively with the two-week term.
