A round-up of the cases before Llanelli magistrates in the past week or two.

FAILING to identify the driver of a vehicle thought to have committed an offence has cost an Amman Valley man £165, with six licence points.

Llanelli magistrates found Ashleigh Morris, aged 28, of 1 Llandeilo Road, Brynaman, guilty of the offence, which happened in October last year. He had denied the offence.

Morris was also ordered to pay £300 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. A second charge of speeding at Whitland in September, which Morris also denied, was dismissed after magistrates found him not guilty.

AN AMMANFORD man must carry out 20 hours of unpaid work after he failed to comply with a court order.

Benjamin Peter Price, aged 34, of 11 Tan y Fan, Capel Hendre, did not carry out a previous order of unpaid work that had been imposed on him by Llanelli Magistrates Court in February.

Price admitted the offence and was ordered by Llanelli magistrates to carry out work within the next 12 months.

A TUMBLE man, who has denied assault and unlawful damage, will appear before Llanelli Magistrates next month.

Arwyn Brain, aged 26, of 43 Gwendraeth Road, Tumble, denies that he assaulted by beating Laura Manca between April 10 and April 20 on the M4 and again on April 25 in Tumble. He also denies that on April 25 he damaged a work’s uniform belonging to Laura Manca.

Llanelli Magistrates adjourned the case for a hearing on August 5.

MAGISTRATES have bound over a Pontarddulais man after he breached a court order.

Christopher dean Davies, aged 28, of 16 Bronallt Road, Hendy, admitted that after entering into an agreement to be of good behaviour made with Llanelli Magistrates Court in June, he breached that by using the threat of violence to enter premises

He was bound over for the sum of £100 for 12 months. Llanelli magistrates dismissed a second charge of using the threat of violence to gain entry into19 Bronallt Road, Hendy.

IT WAS NOT good to talk for two Swansea Valley drivers who have been fined for using a mobile phone while driving.

Jason Thomas Addey, aged 33, of 22 William Street, Ystradgynlais, was found guilty in his absence by Llanelli magistrates for using the phone while driving through Ystradgynlais in March.

Addey was fined £200 and his licence endorsed with three points. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Michelle Louise Truman, aged 34, of 45 Pont Aur, Ynyscedwn Road, Ystradgynlais was fined £80 with three licence points after admitting driving whilst using a phone on Neath Road, Ystradgynlais in March. She must also pay a £20 victim surcharge.

A PONTARDDULAIS man has been fined £200 after he drove with bald, flat and mixed radial tyres and without a licence.

Benjamin Thomas Davies, aged 22, of 25 James Street, was caught by police driving through the town in March with a front offside tyre that had groves in the tread of less than 1.6mm deep. He also had a flat rear offside tyre and had a diagonal and radial tyre on the real axel as well as not in possession of a licence.

Davies admitted the offences and Llanelli magistrates endorsed his licence with three points and ordered costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge to be paid.

AN AMMAN VALLEY man was saved from losing his licence after Llanelli magistrates found it would cause him exceptional hardship.

Under the totting up system, Jonathan Rory James, of Cwmgarnant Farm, Garnant, should have been disqualified after his licence was endorsed by three points by magistrates for driving while using a mobile phone in Llanelli in March.

James, aged 26, had admitted the offence but magistrates accepted his mitigating circumstances- that he would be unable to care for look after his ill father. He was fined £160 with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
