A pair of Ammanford sweethearts will be celebrating 60 years of marriage next weekend with more than 50 family members and friends.

Eryl Lloyd, 84, and wife Daphne, 80, of 103 Margaret Street, will be joined by their three children Vivien, Denise and Delyth, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

When asked about their secret to a long and successful marriage Daphne said: “The key is trust and understanding and a lot of give and take.”

However, jokingly Eryl said: “What’s mine is Mrs Lloyd’s and what’s Mrs Lloyd’s, well, that belongs to her too.”

The romance started when they met by chance at a dance hall in Ammanford, which was also used by the Home Guard during the war.

The romance blossomed and the rest is history as they say.

Eryl, a miner for 45 years, recently retired from Llandybie Male Voice Choir after 21 years of singing.

The happy couple will be sailing into the sunset later in the year as they have planned a romantic cruise around the Mediterranean, Eryl said: “We really enjoy cruising; we have been all over the world, although I do love New Zealand.”

The celebrations with family and friends will take place a bit closer to home at Penybanc Rugby Club where they are regular visitors.
