Amman Valley shoppers donated over 1,000 meals to help families and individuals in need.
Volunteers at Ammanford’s Tesco store asked shoppers to contribute items to support local people in difficulty.
A total of 973.1kg of food was collected.
The food boxes, collected and distributed by Ammanford Foodbank, typically contain items such as tinned fruit and vegetables, tinned meat and fish, pasta, UHT milk and soup.
Ammanford Foodbank manager, Paula Williams and the Foodbank Warehouse Manager, Mydrim Davies, were delighted with the response from shoppers.
“It is hard to describe the difference giving a food parcel makes to people who would otherwise go hungry,” said Paula.
The donated food was enough to feed 50 families or 120 single people for at least three days.
Ammanford Foodbank, which is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK Foodbank Network, has collected 11 tonnes of food since May 2013.
