Ammanford youngsters had a double treat on Tuesday thanks to visits from two of the most exciting sections of Dyfed-Powys Police.

Pupils from Ysgol Feithrin Rhydaman, Ysgol Bro Banw and Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman got to meet members of the Force dog section – including some of the four-legged members of the team – and also got a close-up look at the Dyfed-Powys Police helicopter as officers paid a special visit to the Margaret Street playing fields.

Dog handler PC Nia Griffiths, along with Whiskey and Cai thrilled the children by showing off the skills.

Whiskey is a drugs-search dog while Cai is a general-purpose police dog which detects human scent and deals with violent behaviour.

Ammanford PCSO Sharee Treharne put the shoe on the other foot for once as she played the role of a criminal in a special display arranged for the pupils.

German Shepherd Cai made short work of showing Sharee the importance of staying on the right side of the law.

The pupils also got a close-up view of the inside of the helicopter and made the most of their chance to ask question of the pilot and crew.

All the youngsters enjoyed their time with the animals and the helicopter team as well as taking the opportunity to meet members of the neighbourhood policing team. The officers too enjoyed their afternoon in the sun with the Ammanford youngsters.
