LLANELLI AM Keith Davies has written to the Hywel Dda University Health Board as concerns emerge over maternity care provision at Glangwili Hospital.
Mr Davies has asked specifically for clarification on reports he has received regarding capacity issues at Glangwili Hospital last week, which resulted in expectant mothers being diverted to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
“The Health Board is implementing changes to women’s and maternity services at Glangwili Hospital this summer," he said.
"It is essential that, as plans are developed, the Health Board proactively seeks to reassure patients that current and future service levels match demand to inspire confidence in the service.
“There has been a lot of negativity around health services in Wales, but we know that satisfaction levels are good.
"Hywel Dda Health Board as the provider of services to the National Health Service in west Wales must do all they can to ensure that local provision matches and exceeds public expectation.
"That is why I am seeking further detail on events last week.”
