THE Tenovus Man Van dropped into Ammanford this week, to discuss the issues of prostate and testicular cancer.

Thanks to the generous donations received for men’s charity Movember, Tenovus was able to create the country’s first Man Van – a mobile drop-in service, which is travelling across Wales to support men living with, and affected by prostate and testicular cancer.

Since April 1 the van has seen more than 1,200 men walk through its doors to discuss their health issues.

“Men have a different society to women, we talk about football and beer, it’s time we get over that macho image and discuss the real issues,” said nurse Peter Gill.

“That’s why we are here, to talk through the issues you have that you wouldn’t usually discuss with your family or friends.”

Peter is currently travelling with fellow nurses and councillors, covering the length of breadth of Wales.

“We don’t carry out tests on the van, so people shouldn’t be put off by the thought that this will be an uncomfortable environment, we are a great bunch, and we try our best to make it a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where you can come along and chat about any problem you may have,” said Peter.
