POLICE stations in Garnant and Capel Hendre are not under threat of closure, the Guardian can exclusively reveal.

Rumours had circulated that reviews of Bancyddraenen, Capel Hendre, and Ysgol y Bedol in Garnant had been carried out – with both under threat of closure.

Following the news, Saron Councillor Peter Cooper sent a letter to Chief Constable Simon Prince, urging him to reconsider.

“Having worked with officers at Bancyddraenen office since it opened, I have seen for myself how it has helped them engage positively with the community,” he said.

Both offices are used for PACT meetings, beat surgeries, dispute mediation and restorative justice meetings.

“All of these are important to local residents and in making Capel Hendre and neighbouring areas safer for all who live here,” added Cllr Cooper.

However, the Guardian understands that the two offices will not be scrapped under the Police Service plans.

Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Christopher Salmon a “review had been carried out on the police offices”

which would be used to “create a strategy for future use of the estate”.

“I’m not in a position to discuss individual sites right now but will do so once this strategy is formulated,” he said.

“I want this strategy to ensure that the public can access policing services in line with their modern needs.

“It must also allow police officers to do their jobs well and must represent a wise use of public money.”
