A PENYGROES woman confronted police officers outside her home following an argument with her boyfriend, Llanelli magistrates were told.

Although neighbours tried to restrain her, Jadine Anne Williams was arrested after biting a police officer on the hand, the court heard.

Williams, aged, 22, of 6 Maes y Gors, pleaded guilty to a public order offence and to assaulting Pc Jenkins in the execution of his duty on April 11.

She also admitted stealing 20 bottles of lager worth £7.50 belonging to Asda and possessing one Mitrazepine tablet – a Class drug – two days earlier.

She was given a 12-month community order, ordered to pay £50 compensation for the assault and £7.50 compensation to Asda along with a £60 victims' surcharge.

In addition the defendant was ordered to serve a 28-day curfew from 8am to 8pm beginning this Friday (May 16).

Lesley Harborn, prosecuting, said that on April 11 police had attended the defendant's home following a disturbance.

They found Williams swearing and shouting abuse outside and she proceeded to bite Pc Jenkins' hand, drawing blood.

Two days previously, Jason Davies, a security guard at Asda, Llanelli, had seen Williams pick up a crate of bottled lager and exit the store whilst making no attempt to pay for the items.

Chased and caught by a police officer, Williams was found to have a single Mitrazepine tablet in her mouth during a strip search at the police station.

Steven Lloyd, in mitigation, said his client – who appeared before the court via a video link from prison – was in custody because the offences had been committed whilst she was on licence.

He added that she had been serving a sentence for a burglary offences dating back to January 2012 – the last time she had been in trouble.

"She hit a bad patch," he continued. "She took a sleeping tablet because she was low and down – police arrived at her home whilst she was having an argument with her boyfriend.

"This was the fourth time police had called round – on one occasion they came through the door which was never repaired.

"The reason she reacted in this manner was that she was angry and had been drinking."

Magistrates heard that Williams, who was said to have 27 previous convictions from 41 offences had "an underlying alcohol problem which effected her behaviour."
