WILDLIFE lovers are in for a treat as Dinefwr Park start up their annual Badger Watch evenings once again.

Running throughout the summer months, visitors to the National Trust property will be able to get a closer look at the elusive mammal from the comfort of a purpose built badger hide.

Marketing Officer for National Trust Carmarthenshire, Sophie Thomas, said: “The badger watch evenings are always popular with our visitors.

“Our experienced estate volunteer, Mike Williams, does a fantastic job in running the event. He has been a volunteer for the National Trust for over 25 years and has a wealth of knowledge so visitors are encouraged to ask questions.

“Badgers are notoriously shy creatures so to watch them in their natural habitat is a real thrill. You have a fantastic view from the hide and the badgers come very close so there’s a perfect opportunity to do some wildlife photography too, no matter what level of photography equipment you have.

“And it’s not only badgers that make an appearance”, added Sophie. Dinefwr is the only parkland National Nature Reserve in Wales and is home to some of the best examples of British wildlife.

“The hide itself is situated in a medieval deer park which is grazed by a herd of fallow deer. It’s often visited by foxes, wood mice and an array of colourful birds such as finches, tits, jays, and woodpeckers. It’s a real spectacle for any wildlife enthusiast.

The programme will run every Saturday from May 17 and then every Wednesday and Saturday until August 9. Booking is essential due to the limited spaces in the badger hide. Please call 01558 824512.

All Sessions start at 7pm.
