IT'S business as usual – that is the message from an Amman Valley community centre which has quashed speculation that it is on the brink of closure.

The rumour mill started to turn earlier this month, with members of the public expressing concerns for the future of the Black Mountain Centre, on Cwmgarw Road, Brynaman, following whispers of staffing difficulties.

However, the centre’s trustees and staff are keen to let the public know that the "difficult" operating conditions, which saw the centre close its doors for short periods, have been overcome and it is now business as usual.

In a statement, the centre – now in its tenth year – revealed the introduction of a new management committee who, working alongside some "old" Centre staff were seeking to ensure the centre remained on track and reached its objectives of independence, stability and sustainability.

Chairman of the management committee, John Rees, said: “I would like to thank those members who attended the recent extraordinary general meeting for their support and constructive feedback.

“Whilst the trustees and staff work hard at the centre for its continued development and future, please remember that it is YOUR centre and an asset to the community in which it is based.”

Mr Rees went on to welcome the public’s continued and increased support and said he looked forward to new visitors.

The Black Mountain is open from Monday to Friday from 9am until 4.30pm.

The centre’s cafe is open during weekdays from 9am to 2.30pm.
