A 49-year-old shoplifter was sentenced to four hours behind bars after he admitted stealing a bar of chocolate and two packets of headache tablets from a Llandeilo supermarket.
Andrew Stuart Cobby, of Bro Meusydd in Llanarthne, appeared at Llanelli court to plead guilty to stealing the items from the town’s Co-op store.
Andrew Smith, prosecuting, told the court how Cobby had pocketed a £1 Galaxy bar and a packet of Nurofen capsules costing £2.10 on March 8.
The following day he returned to the store and stole another packet of the headache capsules, but was apprehended by staff as he left without paying.
Sentencing Cobby to spend four hours in the court cells, District Judge David Parsons said the cost of imposing a compensation order was more than the value of the items stolen.
No court costs were imposed.
