POLICE have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of assault following an incident which happened at the Paradise club in Pontardawe at the weekend.

The incident happened just before 1.45am on Sunday when a disturbance broke out, resulting in the 49-year-old female victim losing part of a finger.

"Several other people were involved in the incident and have suffered various injuries," said a spokesman. "A 25-year-old man has now been arrested and is currently on police bail while an investigation continues."

Det Insp Mark Kavanagh, of Neath CID, said: "We are very grateful to everyone who has provided us with information about what took place.

"We are continuing to appeal to trace anyone who witnessed the disturbance to contact the police as many potential witnesses may have left the scene without speaking to police or leaving their details with an officer.

“There were in excess of 200 people present at the club on Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning when the incident took place.

"The disturbance has left the female victim with a serious injury to her hand and I would urge anyone with information about what happened to come forward."
