Householders in Ammanford and the Amman Valley are officially the least likely in Wales to suffer a home burglary, new figures have shown.

A survey of insurance companies, carried out by online price-checker moneysupermarket.com, also claimed residents of the SA18 postcode were the sixth least likely across the whole of the UK to be burgled.

The figures came after the online comparison site compared more than 3.1 million insurance quotes and discovered Amman Valley homes had witnessed the lowest rate of burglaries and thefts from properties, sheds and gardens in the country.

Moneysupermarket claimed that 80 percent of all Welsh burglaries take place in Cardiff.

The figures have been welcomed by Dyfed-Powys Police as a sign of the value of pro-active policing.

“Dyfed-Powys has a low crime level to begin with but the fact that these figures show burglary levels in the Amman Valley are the lowest anywhere is Wales is fantastic news,” said Inspector Stuart Bell, based at Ammanford.

“These statistics show the value of pro-active policing and partnership working.

“We have some really, really good community officers working in this area who know their patches inside out and they are able to identifying potential problems and manage potential offenders.”

Inspector Bell said the figures also underlined the importance of stopping crime before it happens.

“Crime prevention is obviously the key,” he said.

“We have excellent PCSOs out on patrol as well as our Neighbourhood Policing Teams and crime prevention officers, which all helps to avoid crime happening in the first place.

“When crime does happen however we also have a very, very good CID unit based at Ammanford.”
