British bake-off cheer for Towy Valley artist
A TOWY Valley artist is celebrating after being asked to design a set of mugs for popular cookery series The Great British Bake Off .
Kate Glanville, who lives in Bethlehem, creates hand-painted mugs, plates and beautiful tile murals at her home studio.
Kate’s work caught the eye of the Great British Bake Off production company, who asked the delighted ceramic artist if she would design a set of mugs to appear on the set of the BBC2 show, which stars famous chefs Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
“I was asked to design mugs with cupcakes on to appear on the set of the show,” beamed an excited Kate, who’s pottery has been sold in an impressive number of high-profile stores including Harrods, Liberty, Conran Shop, Fortnum & Mason, Fired Earth and Macy’s New York.
Kate studied fashion design at St Martin’s College of Art, London, however she soon became interested in pottery, and started decorating vases and fruit bowls, before moving on to the bespoke mugs and plates.
Her work has featured in a range of magazines, including Country Living, House Beautiful, House & Garden and Perfect Home.
The talented artist also produces wall tile murals using her brightly coloured unique style, creating lively and original designs for the home.
“For the last 22 years I have been working from my studio at my home in Bethlehem,” said the 45-year-old artist.
“My beautiful surroundings are the inspiration for my work.”
The busy mum, who has watched every series of the cookery competition, sits with her children every Tuesday evening to catch a glimpse of her mugs on the set.
“Both the children and I love The Great British Bake Off , every week Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry drink from a different mug, and I hope that one week it will be one of mine.”
“This is definitely a highlight in my career,” she said.
