Conference will debate future of Welsh language

A MAJOR conference called by Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to provide a forum to discuss, analyse and interpret the recent Census results relating to the Welsh language, will be held in Tycroes next month.
The event will be at the Mountain Gate Hotel on Thursday, March 14, from 9.30am-4pm and Leighton Andrews, minister for the Welsh language, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker.
Other speakers include Welsh language commissioner Meri Huws.
A Coleg spokeswoman said: “The Census results clearly highlighted that we face significant challenges; indeed the next decade will be crucial in protecting the future of Welsh as a living community language.
“As an umbrella group representing a wide spectrum of organisations working to promote the Welsh language at a grass roots level, we feel a duty to facilitate an open and creative discussion in response to the situation.
“By bringing together experts, politicians and experienced practitioners in the field, our aim is to discuss those challenges which face us and to set the foundations for future proactive action for the benefit of the Welsh language.”
