AMMANFORD town councillors have raised their precept by a whopping 45 per cent to finance "extra responsibilities".

They say they had no choice but to raise the precept from £55,000 to £80,000 to pay for public toilets, Splash Pads in Ammanford Park and a new footpath to Pantyffynnon.

"It was a difficult decision as members know these are hard times for everyone," said town clerk Miriam Phillips.

"Unfortunately, the financial cuts imposed on the county council have led many smaller councils to increase their precept to ensure public services are maintained.

"We feel that Splash Pads, new footpaths, improved Christmas lights and additional events will hopefully lead to Ammanford going forward."
