Man fined after drugs found in car

A 30-YEAR-OLD Penybanc carpenter has been ordered to pay £315 in fines and fees after he was caught with cannabis and mephedrone in his car.

Sion Aled Davies, of 151 Penybanc Road, and another man were spotted by police sitting in Davies’ Toyota Corolla in the car park at the rear of Ammanford’s Great Western pub at 8.30pm on June 22.

Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, told Llanelli magistrates that the twomengot out of the vehicle when they realised they had been spotted by the passing patrol.

However, when the officers approached and asked Davies to open the door of the car they immediately noted the smell of cannabis and mephedrone – better known as m-cat or meowmeow.

When the officers warned Davies that the vehicle would be searched, he directed them to a tin inside a dashboard panel containing the drugs. Inside the officers found 10.46 grammes of cannabis and a wrap holding 0.69 grammes of mephedrone.

Kate Williams, defending, told magistrates Davies was “a young single man who works hard during the week and then goes out with friends at the weekend and uses drugs recreationally”.

“This has been his first appearance in court and it has had quite an effect on him,” said Ms Williams.

“He is going to have to reassess what he does on a Friday and Saturday night.”

Davies pleaded guilty to possessing both drugs.

Magistrates fined Davies £120 for the possession of cannabis and a further £120 for the possession of mephedrone. Both are categorised as Class B narcotics.

Davies was also ordered to pay £60 court costs and a further £15 legal surcharge.
