Councillors call for crackdown on Betws yobs

BETWS community councillors are calling on local police officers to mount a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Betws Park.

Council chairwoman Anne Sizmur admitted to feeling “a bit aggrieved”

on learning that only Ammanford parks were being targeted.

“I read in the Guardianthat police are having a blitz on Ammanford parks,” she said. “I was a bit aggrieved because we’d like them to pay the same attention to our park here in Betws.

“It’s such a beautiful park and would be again if itwas maintained.”

Councillors have been complaining about underage drinking, graffiti and littering, including broken glass.

Cllr Dewi Branch said a groupofprimaryschool pupils on a recent leafcollecting trip could have been injured by broken glass.

“It appears that the youngsters who were causing problems in Ammanford Park have now moved into Betws,”

commented Cllr Loreen Lewis.

But Cllr Branch added that local Army cadets hadrecentlycarried out a clean-up of the park and had removed graffiti.

The council agreed to contact the cadets, praising them on their work.
