Snakes alive!

AMMANFORD police have revealed that a nest of adders was recently found on wasteland at the rear of Mill Terrace in Pantyffynnon.

Most adders are distinctively marked with a dark zigzag running down the length of the spine and an inverted ‘V’ shape on the neck, but some adders are entirely black and can be mistaken for some other species.

One concerned mum, who asked not to be named said: “We’re told that a nest with babies has been found.

“The conditions are ideal because it’s so overgrown there. All usmumsare keeping a very wary eye on our pets and children, because it’s pretty horrible to think of all those snakes there.”

A police spokesman said: “The adder is the only venomous snake native to Britain, therefore treat adders with respect and leave them alone.

“A bite can be very serious therefore police are advising the public to stay away from the area.

“At this time of year snakes can be on the move to find a hibernation site.

“If anyone comes across any snakes do not approach them, leave them alone and if you’re very near one remain calm and still.”
