PLANS have been drawn up for a nightclub in the centre of Ammanford which, if approved by county planners, would be the first venture of its kind in the town for four years. And, as any taxi driver will tell you, since Rumours closed there has been a sizable drop in the number of people in the town centre on weekend evenings. Given the economic climate, whether now is the right time to embark on such a project is another matter.

POLICE in Ammanford are investigating an incident where a cat was shot with a pellet gun.The cat sustained a broken leg in the attack. If someone knows the perpetrator of this attack, hopefully our front page might prick their conscience.

CAMPAIGNERS striving to prevent the closure of Llandovery’s Ysgol Pantycelyn have failed to convince the Court of Appeal to allow a Judicial Review, a decision they describe as “incomprehensible”.

They are now pinning their last remaining hopes on a last-minute change of heart by the Welsh Assembly. As this paper has recently highlighted, Llandovery will see a significant rise in its population – could this strengthen the argument to retain Pantycelyn?
