Llandovery man storms out as bail plea is rejected

A 24-YEAR-OLD Llandovery man stormed out of Swansea prison’s video booth after magistrates refused to release him from jail to celebrate his birthday.

Dylan Reilly, who gave his address as Bryn Fforest in Cilycwm Road, was on remand after admitting ten offences, including theft, criminal damage, assaulting a police officer and possessing a bladed article in a public place – all between June 2 and July 10. He had hoped to be freed last Thursday.

At a previous hearing, magistrates had been told how Reilly’s offending spree began when he started drinking heavily to mark the Diamond Jubilee, but failed to curb his behaviour when the national celebrations ended.

At Thursday’s hearing before magistrates in Llanelli, Reilly also pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance and driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

The court was also told Reilly had 17 previous convictions, relating to 39 separate offences.

Appearing via a video link from HMP Swansea, Reilly reacted furiously when told he would remain in custody until August 30 for the completion of a psychiatric report into his mental state.

“Can’t you make it a bit quicker, so I can get out for my birthday?” Reilly, who was born on August 17, asked magistrates.

Defence solicitor Richard Morgan told the court that Reilly was “bi-polar and suffers from ADHD”.

“Because of these disadvantages he is finding it difficult to cope in a custodial setting,” said Mr Morgan.

Upon hearing his bail application had been rejected, Reilly jumped to his feet and stormed out of the video booth shouting “lalalalalala” as magistrates attempted to finish giving their ruling.
