Dyfed-Powys Police praised for work with victims

DYFED-POWYS Police has been named one of the best forces in Dthe UK in terms of how it deals with the victims of anti-social behaviour.

A report, published this week, placed the force at the very top of a league table analysing how all UK forces address problems of “repeat victimisation”

when contacted by members of the public.

Dyfed-Powys Police was named in second place with regards assessing “victim vulnerability”

during telephone calls from victims of antisocial behaviour.

The league tables are a result of three years’ work by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) in assessing how different UK police forces tackle antisocial behaviour.

The report praised Dyfed -Powys Police “in the way it understands and identifies vulnerable victims and those who have been subject to anti-social behaviour before”.

Dyfed-Powys Police Chief Inspector Mark Bleasdale said: “We have made great strides in improving the way we deal with our most vulnerable members of society who report incidents which, at face value, can appear to be minor, but we know can escalate into more significant problems if not properly addressed.

“We have critically reviewed the way that we deal with calls from the public and we now feel that our service is more focused on protecting them in their own homes and communities where they live.

“We have not done this by ourselves; we receive significant support from our partner agencies when dealing with the most critical cases.

“We will always seek to develop our effectiveness in dealing with anti-social behaviour and welcome the feedback of HMIC.

“We encourage anybody who feels that they are affected by any form of anti-social behaviour to report it to us by calling 101.”
