TWO AMMANFORD mothers fear it is “only a matter of time” before a fatality takes place in the road where they live.

Karen Stratford and Alison Cousins are trying to galvanise support among neighbours in High Street following a spate of accidents.

They spoke out following the most recent crash – when a van overturned on its side on Easter Monday.

It is understood the driver broke both his legs.

“You’re taking your life in your hands every time you pull out,” said Karen.

“The crash on Bank Holiday Monday was the worst one – if it hadn’t been for the lamppost that van would haven ended up in Alison’s living room.

Alison said: “We need more traffic-calming measures here.“ There’s a speed hump down the road and another further up but nothing in between.

“When vehicles hit that bend in wet weather they just seem to lose it.”

Karen said she felt the situation was so dangerous she was hoping to move home.

“They’ve built a by-pass which isn’t properly used – surely it would have been better to make this a one-way system and direct more traffic onto the bypass?” she said.

“There’s going to be a fatality here one day.

“Traffic-calming measures do not seem to deter drivers and it seems that you don’t have to be speeding to lose control.”
