Relief over Ammanford loo's extended hours!

RESIDENTS of an Ammanford street are flushed with relief after the Guardian learnt that a local loo’s opening hours will be extended.

The Co-op car park toilets have recently been closing at 2.30pm, much to the anguish of crossleggedbus drivers, passengersand shoppers.

Angry Margaret Street residentshave complained that people have been relieving themselves in their gardens, when doors to the nearby loos are locked.

Householders had called on Carmarthenshire county council chiefs to ensure that the toilet block outside the Co-op was open for longer periods.

“The whole business is just ridiculous,” one resident, who did not want to be named, told the Guardian.

“The toilets close at 2.30 in the afternoon – where is the sense in that?

“There are no toilets in the bus station and I’ve seen drivers and passengers run across to the toilets only to find they are locked.”

Another resident pointed out that the nearest public toilets open at that time were situated at Carregaman on the other side of town.

“That’s a long way for people, particularly the elderly, to walk when they have to answer the call of nature,” she said.

“It’s no joke having people urinating in your garden – it’s happened on three occasions nowand we’re fed up to the back teeth about it.”

TheGuardian discovered that traders in the Arcade were frequently approached by schoolchildren and shoppers asking to use their toilets.

And county councillor Hugh Evans was sufficiently disturbed at the reports to demand later opening hours.

“To close the toilets at 2.30pm is obviously not acceptable,” he said.”

But on Monday, a county council spokesman revealed: “We have nowreached a successful outcome to this issue.

“I can confirm that the opening hours at Ammanford Co-op toilets and those at Ammanford Park have been extended to 5pm.”
