Manordeilo man did not regret punching reveller

A MANORDEILO man who punched a reveller after he allegedly smashed a glass into a teenage girl’s face during a Llandovery rugby club disco, told police he did not regret his actions.

When arrested outside the club’s Church Bank headquarters, Daniel James Pearce replied: “There are 100 witnesses in there who’ll say I didn’t do it.

“Who glasses a girl? He deserved it.”

Carmarthen magistrates heard that the girl’s alleged assailant was subsequently attacked by up to 15 people and had to be locked in a disabled toilet by doormen for his own protection.

Pearce, aged 23, of Pencefn, was fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 costs, along with a £15 victims’ surcharge after pleading guilty to a public order offence.

Prosecutor Gerald Neave said police arrived at the club at 12.20am on November 19 to find a large crowd outside, including the alleged assailant, who had suffered obvious injuries.

The defendant, who had been attending an 18th birthday party with a group which included 17-year-old Amy Wright, was arrested after being seen to throw a blood-stained rag at an officer.

Mr Neave said trouble had erupted after a man allegedly got into an argument with Miss Wright before smashing a pint glass in her face.

“Members jumped on him and started punching him,” he said. “He was dragged outside, where the defendant Pearce punched him in the face.

“The defendant threw another punch, which missed and hit a wall, causing injury.

“A large group then started fighting with the man, who was locked into a disabled toilet by door staff until the arrival of police.”

Pearce later described seeing 12 to 15 people punching and kicking the alleged assailant, but declined to give any names to officers.

Aled Owen, in mitigation, said the fact Miss Wright was wearing glasses possibly saved her from losing the sight of an eye.

He said that the alleged assailant faced charges.

Mr Owen added that his client had lost his temper because of the man’s apparent lack of remorse over the alleged attack.

“His friend had been assaulted in the most violent manner.

“He does not feel any remorse towards the man because he feels he has never shown any remorse towards his alleged victim.”
