POLICE are hunting thieves who made off with “a considerable amount of cash” from parking machines in Ammanford and Llandeilo.

The thefts – involving several hundreds of pounds from two machines – are understood to have taken place between 3.40am and 5.40am on Sunday, March 25.

The pay-and-display machines targeted in Ammanford are located in Lloyd Street and Wind Street.

Appealing for information, Insp Paul Williams said: “These three machines have been broken into sometime between 3.40am and 5.40am on Sunday, March 25.

“A substantial amount of cash has been taken and I’d ask any member of the public who may have seen something suspicious around the relevant times to please get in touch by contacting officers at Ammanford police station on 101.”

A county council spokesman said all the authority’s car park machines were emptied daily to prevent a build-up of cash.

“No council car park machines carry cash floats – one of the reasons machines are targeted by thieves – to give change, which is why car park users are advised to have the correct money,” he added.

“Several hundred pounds was taken from two machines and nothing from a third which had just been emptied.

“Many of the machines about the county car parks, particularly those in remote locations, have CCTV surveillance."
