THE WRVS have been praised for taking on the role of running a Llandeilo luncheon club.

Cllr Huwel Manley, chairman of Manordeilo and Salem community council, said the number of people attending the club at Maes Elfryn had gone up since it had moved from its previous base at Crescent Road.

Cllr Manley made his remarks on presenting a cheque of £250 to theWRVS in recognition of their work.

“When the county council proposed to close the previous luncheon club provision at Crescent Road, there was a lot of concern raised by members of our council in addition to Llandeilo Town Council and the other surrounding rural community councils at the potential loss of this important provision for the elderly,” he said.

“Weare extremely pleased that the WRVS has taken on the role in running the luncheon club, which, sincemoving to its new premises at Maes Elfryn, has also seen an increase in the number of people attending on the two days a week that the club is operational.

“We are also pleased that Carmarthenshire local authority has agreed to make improvements to the facilities on site in order to better accommodate the luncheon club. These improvements include enlarging the kitchen facilities and also constructing an additional washroom on site.”

Cllr Manley thanked Amanda Cooke from the WRVS and the volunteers “without whom the provision of a luncheon club for Llandeilo and the surrounding communities would not be possible”.

If anyone is interested in helping to volunteer at the luncheon club, please contact the WRVS on (01269) 843819.
