THE annual Cwmaman summer carnival could well be on the move in 2012, after it emerged that the festival’s organising committee was considering alternative venues for next year’s event.

The news came during last week’s meeting of the local town council, when a representative of Cwmaman United asked councillors to support a bid for lottery cash to improve facilities at the club.

While offering the council’s backing to the club’s bid, mayor Colin Evans raised the possibility of the carnival committee relocating some of its planned events to the club grounds at Grenig Park.

However, Councillor Kevin Madge, who chairs the carnival committee, informed the council that a series of discussions had already taken place on the issue.

“For the last two years, the carnival has been in Cwmaman Park, but we are considering taking the carnival beyond Cwmaman Park,”

he said.

“I think it only right that this year we look to Grenig Park.”

Cwmaman United’s Eirian Rees told the council that club would fully support such a move.

“Anything we could do as a club for the carnival, we would be only too happy to help,” said Mr Rees.

Cllr Madge told fellow councillors that a decision would be made regarding the venue when the carnival committee met again in January.

“We will discuss it in the new year, however there is a good chance that come the first weekend of July next year, wemay well all find ourselves in Grenig Park,” said Cllr Madge.
