A FOOTBALL-crazy Ammanford youngster enjoyed the greatest day of his life last week as the Swans earned themselves a place in the Premier League thanks to the thrilling 4-2 victory over Reading at Wembley.

As if a triumphant trip to the home of football was not enough, eight-year-old Owen Davies did what even the Reading players could not manage by lifting the npower play-off trophy.

The Ysgol Bro Banw pupil had travelled up to London with dad Steve to watch his beloved Swans, but had no idea that at the final whistle his stunning day was still far from over.

As Steve, a former chairman of Ammanford AFC, and Owen made their way home, their party stopped at Membury Services on the M4 for a rest break and, while there, the pair spotted the coach carrying Swans officials and coaching staff.

Striker Owen - who only two weeks earlier had been handed a signed ball by midfield maestro Joe Allen at the Ammanford Juniors presentation evening - was invited on board and given the chance to lift the trophy his heroes had claimed only hours earlier.

"It was awesome," said Owen, who counts former Swans loanee frontman Fabio Borini as his favourite player. "The whole day was brilliant."

Dad Steve added: "Owen was still on Cloud Nine after the game and then to have lifted the trophy was incredible for him.

"He is football crazy so it really was a day he will never, ever forget.

"Owen has had a fantastic few weeks; he was on the pitch as a Swans mascot before the semi-final against Nottingham Forest at the Liberty Stadium, and then to meet Joe Allen, and then to see them win the play-off, and then to actually lift the trophy himself.

"There is no way he could ever have imagined that.

"He could not believe he was holding the trophy. I'm sure he will remember it forever more."

"By the time he came home he was ecstatic, but very, very tired," said mum Tracey.

"It was amazing for him. A real once in a lifetime moment."
