FEARS are growing that a man living wild on dis-used tips at Pantyffynnon may not have survived the harsh winter.

The man - dubbed 'The Wolfman' by local residents - has been living the life of a recluse and is thought to shelter in a series of primitive hides in dense woodland.

He was blamed for a string of petty thefts from vehicles and garages in Penybanc and Pantyffynnon during 2009 but police who investigated did not make any arrests.

Last year officers scoured the tips following reports that a makeshift den had been found. They later maintained that the camp had been abandoned for some time.

"No-one has seen any signs of this chap lately," one local resident told the Guardian. "I hear that people have been walking the tips looking for him.

"The obvious concern is that anyone sleeping rough over the winter may not have survived those freezing temperatures.

"On the other hand, the guy just might have simply upped and left the area.

"It's a mystery, a bit like 'The Wolfman' himself, to be quite honest."
