BNP councillor quits party in protest over assault row

LEAVING: Cllr Kevin Edwards LEAVING: Cllr Kevin Edwards

THE Welsh wing of the far-right British National Party is said to be in turmoil after a Llandybie community councillor tore up his membership following the Guardian's coverage of an assault carried out by a party member.

According to Cllr Kevin Edwards, the Guardian's reporting of BNP member Roger Phillips' attack on Adam Margetts in Cross Hands on December 20 has set the party back years in Wales.

The Llandybie councillor says he resigned after a meeting of party organisers went back on a pledge from BNP leader Nick Griffin to have Mr Phillips dismissed from the party.

Mr Griffin had sent Cllr Edwards an email regarding Mr Phillips' actions, stating: "He's got to go. I'm shocked that this was not dealt with in South Wales ages ago."

However, Cllr Edwards claims that the party's refusal to oust "thuggish" Mr Phillips, has left him no choice but to cut all links with the BNP.

"My mobile number never stopped with calls from distraught ex and current members who were deeply disturbed over this incident that has set the BNP back years in west Wales," said Cllr Edwards, who will continue to stand as a "Justice 4 Linda Lewis Campaign" councillor at Llandybie. Last year fellow Llandybie community councillor Meirion Bowen also resigned from the BNP.

Following his resignation, Cllr Edwards' blog was inundated with messages of support from party members.

"This is a very serious and major setback for the profile of the BNP in Wales," said one anonymous poster.

Kevin Edwards seems to be personnally attacking Mr.Roger Phillips with this story. It also seems pretty obvious that he does not have the partys best interests at heart and never has done, he has used the party to try and gain more publicity for his partners campaign and proved this after the GE results in Neath where he turned up wearing a t-shirt with the cause printed on it and talked about nothing else in his speech. Shame on you Kevin the BNP is better off without you!

He talked about the incident as "setting the BNP, back in the year" I wonder if they ever left the dark ages, and if he thinks an attack on him shows the BNP is still in dark ages, maybe he might want to have a better look at the people their political views have destroyed their lives, from BMEA community to the LGBT and Women. Its annoying to be hearing stupid people like this shouting after they have climbed the steps of leadership of the back of bigotry.

I actually voted for this man in the county elections a couple of years ago.I will never again. He is using a personal greevance against anothjer man for his own ends.I have looked at his blog and there are less than 10 comments on either of his rants and some are against him.Hardly an inundation is it.A turncoat is the lowest form of life.Mr Phillips only did what John Prescott did. Not very professional reporting Mr Guardian.

blackboy2, Can I remind you that the highest court in the land, in the case of the failed, vindictive action taken by the highly expensive, divisive EHRC, has in effect, declared the British National Party IS NOT RACIST. Neither are its leaders, members, supporters and million-odd voters bigots.

-It is not racist to resist the colonisation and Islamification of these islands, the genocide of its indigenous people, warning of the widespread sexual grooming of vulnerable white schoolgirls by Pakistan-origined Muslims or hatred taught in Mosques.
-It is not racist to demand that those indigenous people should come first for jobs, housing, healthcare, education, etc, etc, and not put at the bottom of the pile below recent newcomers who have contributed nothing into the system.
-It is not racist to demand a halt to immigration or our soldiers being killed in a worthless war which increases the terrorist threat here or get us out of the EU and regain sovereignty.

So many of the issues previously highlighted by the BNP, for which they have been vilified, are only now being voiced by politicians and the media when the damage is done (without due recognition as usual) which makes it OK of course.

I suggest you look at the policies on their website and tell us which are racist. British Nationalists do not consider themselves superior to any other race or colour of people.
