SUPERMARKET giants Sainsbury's have announced plans for a new store and petrol filling station on the site adjacent to Llandeilo's Beechwood Industrial Estate, allocated by Carmarthenshire County Council for food retail.

The plans include a 25,000 sq ft sales area store with a focus on food ranges, a competitively priced four-pump petrol filling station, cash point, recycling bank and pedestrian linkages to connect the store to local housing, shops, facilities and bus stops.

Detailed proposals for the new state-of-the-art Sainsbury's store will be on display in the retail unit adjacent to the Post Office at 58, Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo on Friday, January 28, between noon and 5.30 and on Saturday, January 29, between 9am and 3pm.

Exhibition boards will be displayed setting out Sainsbury's plans, including details of what the store would offer and architect's drawings of what it would look like.

The exhibition will also give details on Sainsbury's commitment to local sourcing and how to get involved in its local sourcing scheme, 'Supply Something New', which is open to food suppliers across Wales.

Graham Wilson, Sainsbury's regional development surveyor for Wales, said: "Research has indicated that the majority of people living in and around Llandeilo travel outside of the town in order to do their regular food shop.

"A Sainsbury's so close to the main shopping street has the potential to attract more shoppers to Llandeilo, encouraging a thriving high street that would benefit its many traders all year round.

"Our proposals will also include a competitively priced petrol filling station which we are told would be welcomed by local people."

In the weeks following the exhibition Sainsbury's will analyse the feedback received and then look to submit a planning application to the county council.
