CALLS from a BNP councillor for a by-election to be held in Saron have been rejected by Llandybie community councillors.
Cllr Kevin Edwards maintained a by-election was needed due to what he claimed was the poor attendance record of Plaid member Cllr Dorian Lewis who represents the Saron ward.
But Cllr Lewis has been defended by his colleagues who say there are no grounds for a by-election.
"Dorian has missed some meetings due to work commitments but there is no problem with his attendance record," one member told the Guardian.
"We feel there is absolutely no basis for a by-election and are holding a united front on this matter."
Another member commented: "We don't know why Dorian has been singled out in this way."
Cllr Edwards, the BNP press officer for south Wales, was unrepentant.
"I have asked the council to hold a by-election which the BNP are all set to fight," he told the Guardian.
"If they do not want the expense of a by-election I have suggested the council take on Mike Green, of the BNP, as a co-opted member."
