The August Bank Holiday witnessed a historic gathering unlike any other at Gwynfe Village Hall.

Gwynfe residents the Page family held a grand reunion to celebrate almost 100 years in the village.

Edward Page came to Gwynfe to work, meeting and marrying his wife in 1916.

The couple lived in and around the village for a number of years before finally settling in Bryncapel in the early 1920s.

The couple had 10 children and 24 grandchildren to create a village dynasty.

This year, some of Edward Page’s grandchildren formed a celebration committee and organised a hog roast to catch up with as many of the remaining family members as possible, who attended from all over the UK.

Two of Edward Page’s sons Cyril and Brian were present as guests of honour and were delighted to receive a framed photograph of their parents and siblings, taken in the early 1950s.

They then took on the role of guides, alongside their sister-in-law Joanne, to show the younger generations around the family homestead.

The current owners of Bryncapl were kind enough to hand over the keys to their home, allowing Cyril, Brian and Joanne the chance to revisit the house and share the memories, and highs and lows of their childhoods.

The event raised £160 in aid of Gwynfe Church and £50 was donated to Gwynfe Village Hall.

Numerous people put in a huge effort to ensure the event was a success, but a special thank you must go to Sheila Jones for all her hard work.
