Factory staff bowled over by Prince

PRINCE Charles braved an Amman Valley scorcher to pay a visit to a Pantyfynnon success story.

The Prince spent a glorious Friday afternoon on a guided tour of the Corgi Hosiery factory on New Road.

Factory staff were delighted to get the opportunity to chat with the Prince who also took the time to exchange a few words with local youngsters who had gathered outside in soaring temperatures to await the heir to the throne’s arrival.

Year Five Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman pupil Aled Phillips made the most of the visit to shake hands with the Prince and swap a few words in Welsh.

"I said Prynhawn Da and asked him if he spoke Welsh," said Aled. "He smiled and ‘Diolch.’ It was really great."

Another keen supporter whose wait in the hot sun was rewarded with a few words was 89-year-old Mary Tippins of Llandybie.

"I have always liked him," she said. "I am thrilled to have met him. He was wonderful."

Corgi directors Lisa Wood and Chris Jones took the Prince on a guided tour of the factory where he showed great interest in staff members and the roles within the organisation.

Factory worker Peter Wood, of Ammanford, described the visit as being a benefit to both the company and the town.

"It is brilliant to have got him to visit a family-run Ammanford business."

Ann Clarke, who has worked at the factory for 28 years, said: "He was very, very nice.

"He was really interested in what I do here," said Ann, of Aberlash.

"The Prince’s visit means everything to us," said director Chris Jones.

"The have had the Royal Warrant for some time now, but this visit is such an important thing for the whole company."

Co-director Lisa Wood added: "It is just wonderful to have him here. It is absolutely amazing for everyone involved."
