Ammanford shoppers are gearing up for tomorrow’s grand opening (9am) of a new Iceland store in the town.
Mayor Irena Hopkins will cut the ribbon as the frozen food giant opens its doors for the first time on the site of the former Woolworths store in Quay Street.
Iceland’s arrival marks the return of a large-scale retail food outlet to the town centre for the first time since the closure of Somerfield in 2009, offering fresh and frozen groceries and a home delivery service.
Store bosses promise a feast of fun to mark the big day with a host of activities planned.
The opening will bring 27 much-needed new jobs to the beleaguered town centre which has struggled to come to terms with last year’s closure of Woolworths.
David Evans, Iceland area manager, said: “We are delighted to be opening our new store and pleased to be able to contribute to employment in the area.”
