LLANDEILO Rotary Club members were delighted to welcome two special guests to their recent meeting One of them was Mair Williams, president of Swansea Bay Rotary Club.

Mair is no stranger to the area as she is originally from Talley – her family having a background in farming.

Having travelled widely with Rotary International to former trouble hotspots of Croatia, Kosovo and Albania, Mari is leaving with her granddaughter early in February to visit Uttar Pradesh, India, where she will be involved in polio eradication.

The club’s other guest was Claire-Elizabeth Ramson, who is visiting Wales on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, one of 800 scholarships awarded annually.

The Rotary Club of Rotorua, based in the North Island of New Zealand, sponsored Claire.

A Bachelor of Science and a bio-polymer engineer, she gave an illustrated talk, providing Rotarians with a background of the Maori, Pacific Islanders and European cultures in her home country. She drew many parallels with Wales and her talk was followed by questions, a number of them connected with rugby!

The vote of thanks was delivered by past president Ian Turner.
