MP Adam Price, whose father Rufus was a founder member of Towy Amateur Boxing Club, has made a £250 donation to the club and praised the role it fulfils in the community.

“The club does great work with these young kids and provides training and leadership in developing their interpersonal skills to prepare them for life in the community,” said Mr Price.

“Clubs like Towy ABC provide a great service to the community, especially as all the club officials give their time on a voluntary basis every day of every week over many years.

“The club receives little or no support from the local authority or Welsh Assembly in their efforts to exist. Both would do well to consider how they might support clubs like Towy going forward as part of their policy in fighting anti-social behaviour.

“I am delighted to make this donation to help the club in it’s fight for survival and hope to be associated with the club for many years to come.”

Club secretary, Derek McAndrew said: “Adam Price has been and is a tremendous supporter of the club over many years. He and his father have attended club shows and supported the club in many ways.

“At a time when MPs’ images are at an all-time low, it is very refreshing to be associated with an MP with true social values and one who is prepared to commit his own money to support the local community.

“The club exists on a very limited income and donations like this make the difference between surviving and going out of existence.”
