MEMBERS of the Amman Youth Forum recently attended an event to promote community safety for the county’s older people.
Youth Forum members gave away free lightbulbs and helped to fit them.
The group took part in the project to help break down the barrier that often exists between young people and older people by engaging with them and showing that young people aren’t necessarily yobs and hoodies.
Jade Lewis, chairwoman of Amman Youth Forum said: “I think it’s great that we can help older people reduce their energy consumption, reduce their electricity bills and make a difference to their perception of young people.
“We met a lot of people at this event and were able to show that young people are positive members of the community.”
The group is looking at other projects to help make the community safer for others while allowing young people to break down the negative stereotypes that often surround them.
Councillor Gwynne Wooldridge, Executive Board Member for Children and Education Services, added: “We are fortunate that many of our young people are prepared to take the time to help vulnerable people.
“Over the past couple of months during the bad weather I have been amazed to see the extent young people in the Amman areas have gone to to help older people feel safe.
“Thank you for all the hard work.”
