Film show hopes to build success

Llandovery’s community cinema burst into life last week and organisers hope the big screen experience is in the town to stay.

Terry Leyman, manager of Rhys Prichard Hall and the man behind the cinema project, was delighted with the first night’s showing.

“It all went very well as far as the opening goes,” said Terry.

Although the adverse weather ensured attendance was limited, the organisers were more than able to cover the hall costs.

“The only problem was that the film itself was a real disappointment,” said Terry.

“The write-up said it was a heartwarming comedy, but I don’t recalling laughing more than once or twice.”

Undeterred by the failings of a movie about Morris dancers, Terry’s next screening is a wartime thriller entitled Glorious 39.

The March screening will tell the story of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.

“We have put a lot of work into getting the cinema project to this stage and we are looking to go from strength to strength,” said Terry.

Glorious 39 is due to be screened on Friday, February 26.

Doors open at 6.45pm.
