SIXTH-form pupils from Amman Valley Comprehensive School will take part in a series of workshops to mark ten years of devolution and learn about Carmarthenshire’s role in the 1997 referendum.
The workshops have been organised by the Assembly’s education team – which operates across Wales – and Carmarthenshire Council.
Pupils will learn about the history of the Assembly and the importance of participating in the decision-making process in Wales.
They will also be shown how to submit a petition to the Assembly.
Presiding officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas said: “There’s a widespread misconception that young people are apathetic when it comes to politics.
“But if they understand the processes involved and how theses decisions affect their daily lives, the potential for them to become democratically active is maximised.
“It’s wonderful to see so many young people taking an interest in issues that affect them.”
The workshops will end with a video message from Peter Jones, deputy acting returning officer at Carmarthenshire Council.
Schools interested in running a similar programme should contact either Aled Williams on 01267 224565, or Kate Gravell on 07977 547050.
