The so-called Wolfman of Pantyfynnon is still alive and well and living in the area, according to Dyfed Powys Police.

Although sightings of the mystery man – said to live wild in woodland around the village – appear to have dwindled in recent months, evidence suggests he remains on the prowl.

“There have certainly been instances where we have received reports of someone appearing to have slept in various sheds and outhouses in the area,” said Sergeant Charles Gabe.

“However we have not had any recent reports of crimes committed in the area which we would attribute to him.

“As far as we are concerned, the Wolfman is still out there.”

Interest in the wildman reached fever pitch in March when police launched a man-hunt for the shadowy figure following a spate of minor thefts from gardens and doorsteps where clothing, food and milk was stolen.

Officers found a number of roughly constructed “hides” in woodland near Pantyffynnon Tips, but the search for the Wolfman – so nicknamed by local children who had become aware of his existence – proved fruitless.

“We think he catches rabbits and eats berries or whatever else he can get his hands on,” said Sgt Gabe at the time of the initial enquiry.

Despite employing a helicopter with heat-seeking cameras, the Wolfman continued to evade his would-be captors.

“This is a massive thickly-wooded area, and one he knows well,” said Sgt Gabe.

Such was the interest over the case of the Wolfman of Pantyffynnon that numerous national newspapers dispatched their top investigative reporters to stake out the woods in the hope of a sighting, but all ultimately failed.

A TV production company still has plans to film a documentary about the hunt for the Wolfman.
