THE first Tywi Afon Yr Oesoedd Fun Run took place in Llandeilo on a glorious sunny morning.

The event was being staged at Llandeilo RFC’s Caeau William and included a series of children’s races followed by a 5km multi-terrain run which took runners through the National Trust’s Dinefwr Park.

Commenting on the children’s races and the 5km fun race, organiser Noelwyn Daniel said: “We had an excellent day’s racing – all runners received a medal for their efforts and we would like to say a huge thank you to Llandeilo RFC for allowing us to use their magnificent facilities.”

Eleri Davies, who leads the Tywi Afon Yr Oesoedd project, said: “The whole emphasis was on ensuring the runners enjoyed themselves and were able to appreciate the local landscape, which we often take for granted.”

Thomas Davies from Llandeilo with Phoebe Davies from Ffairfach were winners of the fun run for all children aged six and under.

The race for the seven to nine-year-olds saw Callum Lovett from Ammanford and Iestyn Williams from Llangadog cross the line together to win the boys category. Elle Kiff from Llandeilo was matching the boys step for step and won the girls race comfortably.

Ammanford duo Lucy Jones and Christian Lovett triumphed in race for the 10-12 age group.

The 5km multi-terrain run was won by 18-year-old Dewi Griffiths from Llanfynydd who clocked an excellent time of 16min 41sec, nearly four minutes clear of his nearest rival.

The winner of the women’s race was Alaw Beynon-Thomas from Hendy who finished in 20min 14sec.

Other winners: Men over-40: Kevin Taylor (Amman Valley Harriers); over 50: Mark Terry (TROTS); over 60: Leslie Chapman (Amman Valley Harriers ).

Women over 35: Sharron Leach (Carmarthen ); over 45: Sue Davies (Brecon); over-55: Verona Ellis (Llandeilo).
