ICELAND will not be opening in Ammanford until after Christmas, it has been revealed this week.

The countdown was on for the frozen food giant’s move to the old Woolworths site in Quay Street and community leaders had hoped they would be in by the end of the year.

But any hopes of a pre-Christmas opening have been shattered, with bosses this week confirming that plans have been put back until early 2010.

A spokesman for the company told the Guardian: “We are still coming to Ammanford but we will not be opening until after Christmas.”

Ammanford Cllr Hugh Evans said that while he was disappointed with the news, he was relieved the move was still on.
